This year, the Spirit of Jeff Troup Award goes to Darcie Juarez.  We’ve decided to honor Darcie for her enthusiasm, cheerfulness, friendliness, sincerity, and spirit of inclusion which make her not only a treasured mentor for new dancers, but also a great role model for seasoned lindy hoppers. Darcie happily dances with anyone — lead or follow — regardless of their experience, ability, or dance role. Darcie supports all corners of the Portland swing dance scene with regular attendance at most social dances in our community, and continuously demonstrates her passion for dancing and teaching, all while maintaining a busy schedule raising a family and running her own business. We are fortunate and thankful to have such an admirable and deserving swing dance ambassador among us. Thank you, Darcie!

Friends – THANK YOU for an amazing weekend of music, dancing, teaching, learning, and performing. There were so many amazing moments that it’s hard to pick just one, but none of them would be possible without the support of our amazing dance community.

Saturday Workshop #1 – Adam Brozowski

Adam Brozowski to teach at the 2019 Portland Lindy Exchange!

Posted on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 7:55 AM

We are extremely excited to announce that Adam Brozowski will be teaching at the 2019 PDXLX on Saturday, May 18th!

Originally from Seattle, Adam fell in love with Swing and Jazz music at 11 years old. Since then, Adam has been a member of the International Lindy Hop and Swing dance communities and travels the world as a teacher, performer choreographer and voice of all things swing. Known for his accomplishments in Tap, Solo-Jazz, Balboa and Lindy Hop as both a leader and follower, Adam has a unique multi-faceted skill set on the dance floor. See Adam’s 2018 ILCH Pro Classic Finals performance with Máté Csike in the clip below.

In the classroom, Adam is well known for his creative and out of the box approach to teaching. Often throwing convention out the window, Adam places a high value on musicianship, creative experimentation, self expression, historical inspiration (not appropriation) and a complete equality between the voice of the follow and the leader. Adam is especially proud of his work in raising visibility for the LGBTQAI+ community in swing dance with his Hungarian dance partner Máté Csike in their continuing efforts to de-gender the roles of the “lead” and “follow.” Adam is delighted to teach for PDX for the first time. www.AdamBrozowski.com

If you haven’t already, don’t forget to register for the 2019 PDXLX to seize the opportunity to step up your lindy hop with Adam. Class availability is limited, so buy your tickets today!! Learn more here.
