About the 2019 Portland Lindy Exchange

The Portland Lindy Exchange (PDXLX) is Portland, Oregon’s annual dance exchange celebrating the vintage swing music and dances of the 20’s – 50’s, including Charleston, Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Collegiate Shag. The PDXLX started in 2012, making this our 8th Annual PDXLX.

The 2019 PDXLX will feature over 20 hours of LIVE big band, traditional jazz, and swing from some of the best bands on the planet. This year, we are honored to feature Evening and Late Night sets by world-famous Jonathan Stout and His Campus Five featuring Hilary Alexander.

On Sunday, we’ll have a free and incredibly fun outdoor dance at Director Park in NW Portland – one of our favorite parts of the entire Exchange!

On Saturday, we’ll be hosting two Workshops with Adam Brozowski and Johnna Gurgel. The Workshops are expected to sell out so buy your tickets soon to ensure a spot! The PDXLX will also offer drop-in swing lessons at the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening dances, which are included with all of our weekend and single-event passes.

This year’s PDXLX will be held in Portland’s historic Bossanova Ballroom, a gem in Portland’s local music and swing dance history.

In addition to the official activities planned as part of the PDXLX, we’ve included information on our Schedule of Events page about other places to swing out during the Exchange weekend, including our unofficial kick-off social on Thursday, May 16 at the Secret Society Ballroom and Swingercise with Melissa Roane at the Viscount Dance Studio on Monday, May 20.

This year, the Spirit of Jeff Troup Award goes to Darcie Juarez.  We’ve decided to honor Darcie for her enthusiasm, cheerfulness, friendliness, sincerity, and spirit of inclusion which make her not only a treasured mentor for new dancers, but also a great role model for seasoned lindy hoppers. Darcie happily dances with anyone — lead or follow — regardless of their experience, ability, or dance role. Darcie supports all corners of the Portland swing dance scene with regular attendance at most social dances in our community, and continuously demonstrates her passion for dancing and teaching, all while maintaining a busy schedule raising a family and running her own business. We are fortunate and thankful to have such an admirable and deserving swing dance ambassador among us. Thank you, Darcie!
